|
|
The 2020 DME is a
latest generation solid state system which either meets or exceeds the
requirements of ICAO Annex 10. It can operate as a stand alone system
or in conjunction with associated navaids such as MLS, ILS, CVOR, DVOR
and NDB. The advanced features of the 2020 DME are brought about by the
extensive use of programmable logic devices (PLDs).

Reliability |
 |
| |
|
Fernau has paid particular
attention during the development of the 2020 DME to equipment reliability
and maintenance aspects. The use of latest technology and more reliable
components has set new standards in reliability and maintainability, with
an MTBO in excess of 15,000 hours. The modern design will see the 2020
DME operational well into the 21st Century.

Flexibility
|
 |
| |
|
|
The
2020 DME is available in a variety of configurations including a single
transponder with dual monitoring. Other alternatives are also available,
such as transportable and mobile systems.

Active
Transmitter Control |
 |
| |
|
The 2010 has a powerful remote control facility that includes control
of the output power, operating channel, operating mode and transponder ON/OFF
etc. This allows a new dimension in tactical control of the entire 2010
TACAN network, which can now be performed from a central location, without
the need for costly and time consuming site visits. System tuning and alignment
can also be carried out from a remote terminal.

Remote
Maintenance and Monitoring (RMM)
|
 |
| |

|
|
The
2020 DME has an integrated, powerful monitoring and maintenance system which
is displayed on a local and/or remote PC. The RMM system has a number of
display screens showing operating parameters, overall system status, LRU
status, alarm limits, diagnostics and test, amplifier status, transmitter
control status and many more. The history logging facility allows the maintenance
engineer to judge the optimum time to effect the repair, before failure
or shutdown occurs, whilst the LRU status screen indicates which module
is faulty.
 |
| |
|
Monitoring
|
 |
| |
|
Each
Monitor checks that the DME system performs in accordance with ICAO Annex
10. In addition to this, each Monitor is able to change certain system parameters
to allow in depth analysis and testing of the DME from a remote location
using the RMM system.

Maintainability
|
 |
| |

|
|
All
modules are plug-in and accessed from the front of the DME cabinet. By using
the RMM system for fault indication, a typical repair takes less then 15
minutes. All LRU's are keyed to prevent a module being inserted into the
incorrect position. The BITE system continually monitors the DME and gives
an alarm indication in the event of a module failure, system transfer, or
shutdown. The 2020 DME allows for the hot replacement of modules
which means that the equipment remains operational even while a module is
being replaced.
|
| |
|
Remote
Control |
 |
| |
|
Full
control of the DME can be performed from a remote location either by the
RMM PC or the Remote Control and Status Indicator. In addition to these
control functions, the RMM system also provides for control of power, ident,
presettable alarm limits, monitor test functions, routine tests and print
outs.

Upgradeability |
 |
| |
|
|
The 2020 DME has a
system architecture that allows future upgrade to DME with minimum system
redundancy.

Antenna
|
 |
| |
 |
|
The 2020 DME operates
with all standard omnidirectional, unidirectional and bidirectional antennas.
Typically each antenna type will handle an input power in excess of 1000
Watts at standard DME pulse duty cycle and will operate over its entire
frequency range with an input VSWR at 50½ of less than 2.0:1.
Furthermore, the 2020
DME does not require a non standard antenna with high gain. Therefore
Fernau offer a standard solution with an 8dB gain omnidirectional antenna
with dual coupler outputs for high integrity performance.
All antennas are lightweight,
rugged, fully waterproof and come with a range of mounting adaptors to
suit all sites. Obstacle lights and lightning rods are available as optional
extras.
